Columbarium
What is a Columbarium?
A columbarium is a group of niches which contain a deceased's cremated remains. Over the years, churches have established columbariums as special places for the safekeeping of cremated remains. The name "columbarium" is derived from the Latin word "columba" which was a nesting place for doves.
About Cremation
Cremation has become an increasingly common form of burial. The Episcopal Church has long approved cremation. As Job 19:25-27 says:
"For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth; and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see on my side, and my eyes shall behold, and not another."
Church members who have experienced God's love through the fellowship and services of the church may wish to have their ashes interred at the Church, surrounded by the continual praise and worship of the congregation.
Location
St. Cyprian's Columbarium is on the interior wall of the south transept.
